What is avani lekhara?

Avani Lekhara is an Indian para-athlete who competes in shooting. She is a multiple-time medalist at the Paralympic Games, and is the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics.

Lekhara represented India at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, where she won a gold medal in the 10m air rifle standing SH1 event and a bronze medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 event. She also won a gold medal at the 2022 World Shooting Para Sport World Cup in Chateauroux, France.

Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Lekhara was involved in a car accident at the age of 11 that left her with spinal cord injuries. She took up shooting in 2015, inspired by Abhinav Bindra. In 2021, she was conferred with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, India's highest sporting honour.
